Baby is beginning to enjoy solids, and you want to
provide the right foods. Here are a few tips to guide you as you work
with your pediatrician to nourish your child. Discuss introduction of solid foods and use of formula
or milk with your child's pediatrician.
- Start solids sensibly. Most
pediatricians recommend that infants start on solid
foods at around six months of age. (Of course, you will want to check
with your own pediatrician to see when the right time is for your baby.)
First foods should be easy to digest and not likely to cause an allergic
reaction - rice cereal, including Cream of Rice, is an appropriate starter
food for babies.
- Give nutrition a nod. Even
before you see that first tooth, your baby's teeth are developing. Also,
baby's bones are growing longer and stronger. That is why babies need
calcium. They also need iron to produce healthy red blood cells. Baby
basics like breastmilk or infant formula for calcium and fortified cereal, like Cream of Rice,
for iron help give babies the nutrition they need.
